Postnatal service

At Paediatric Diagnostics, we understand the importance of caring for both mother and baby during the vital postnatal period. We are delighted to announce the launch of our new Postnatal Service, which will be available at our newly extended clinic.

Our consultant-led service is dedicated to providing exceptional postnatal care, offering comprehensive support to ensure the health and wellbeing of both mother and child. With access to advanced medical facilities, we are able to provide a fully integrated approach to postnatal care, including ultrasound scans, echocardiograms, and phlebotomy services for both adults and children.

Our aim is to support families through expert-led, compassionate care during this crucial stage, ensuring peace of mind and the best possible start for your baby.

We recognise that while newborns require nurturing and attentive care, new mothers equally need dedicated support, guidance, and medical attention. Many traditional cultures emphasise the importance of an extended postnatal recovery period, and we have incorporated these principles into our modern, evidence-based approach to maternal care. Our service aims to help mothers regain strength, restore vitality, and transition smoothly into parenthood with expert guidance.

Expert-Led Postnatal Care

Our postnatal care service has been carefully designed by two leading consultants:

  • Dr Bindu Radha, Consultant Paediatrician with expertise in perinatal care.
  • Miss Shalini Srivastava, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with extensive experience in women’s health.

Together, they have identified a significant gap in postnatal care in the UK and have worked collaboratively with neonatal nurses, midwives, infant feeding specialists, and lactation consultants to develop a holistic and supportive service. As members of the NHS Birth Trauma working group, our specialists ensure that our care model aligns with best practices in postnatal recovery, addressing both the physical and emotional needs of new mothers.

Our postnatal care is available as a ‘mother and baby package’ or through individual consultations in paediatrics, gynaecology, or lactation support, allowing families to access the specific care they require.

Midwifery-Led Postnatal Care

Our midwifery-led service offers compassionate, personalised care for new mothers and their families during the postpartum period. Whether you have had a straightforward birth or a more complex delivery, our experienced midwives provide essential support to aid recovery, offer reassurance, and guide you through early parenthood.

Midwifery Consultations Include:

  • Postnatal Recovery & Monitoring
Comprehensive post-birth support, including birth debriefs, wound care, pelvic floor health, and monitoring uterine healing to ensure a smooth recovery.
  • Infant Feeding Support
Expert, unbiased guidance on all aspects of feeding, whether breastfeeding, formula feeding, expressing breast milk, or overcoming feeding challenges.
  • Emotional Wellbeing
Recognising the importance of maternal mental health, our midwives provide emotional support, identify signs of postnatal depression or anxiety, and offer referrals where necessary.
  • Newborn Care Advice
Support on essential aspects of infant care, including bathing, winding, massage, umbilical cord care, jaundice management, sleep routines, and parent-baby bonding.

Lactation Consultancy & Infant Feeding Support

Breastfeeding can present unique challenges, and our International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) are on hand to provide expert support tailored to each mother’s individual needs. IBCLCs are internationally recognised professionals with extensive training in lactation care, offering evidence-based advice and hands-on support for all feeding concerns.

Lactation Support Services Include:

  • Assistance with low milk supply, latch difficulties, and painful breastfeeding.
  • Specialised support for high-risk or preterm babies who may require additional feeding interventions.
  • Assessment and management of tongue-tie, lip-tie, and other feeding-related conditions.
  • Expert guidance on mixed feeding, bottle feeding, and weaning, helping mothers make informed choices that suit their baby’s needs.

Our lactation consultants work closely with parents to create a personalised feeding plan, ensuring a positive and successful feeding journey for both mother and baby.
