Children’s Blood Test Service

We are proud to be one of the few private clinics serving Surrey, Sussex, and Kent, offering blood tests for children from as young as one day old up to 18 years. Our highly skilled paediatric nursing team is available to arrange private blood tests for patients of all ages.

For further information, please contact our team at info@paediatricdiagnostics.com.

Conveniently located in Charlwood, West Sussex, we provide easy access for families in Crawley, Worthing, Chichester, Waterlooville, Havant, Portsmouth, Brighton, Dorking, Surrey, London, and surrounding areas.

At Paediatric Diagnostics, we understand that accessing blood tests for children can be a challenge. Due to the specialist skills required to safely and effectively carry out these procedures in young patients, many families face long waiting times or difficulty finding appropriate care. In response to this need, we have developed our own in-house Private GP service.

This service provides families with direct access to experienced medical professionals who can assess whether a blood test is clinically appropriate, discuss any concerns, and arrange the test during the same visit whenever possible. In addition, we also offer blood testing services for children who have a referral or request from an external GP or healthcare professional.

Please note: All blood tests must be requested by a qualified healthcare provider either through our team or by an external clinician.

Blood tests in children may be required for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Investigating allergies

  • Assessing general health and wellbeing

  • Detecting signs of infection

  • Identifying inflammatory conditions

  • Exploring potential genetic disorders

  • Investigating gut-related illnesses or intolerance’s

We know that having a blood test can be a worrying experience for both children and their families. That’s why our team of experienced paediatric nurses is dedicated to creating a calm, supportive, and child-friendly environment. Our nurses take the time to explain each step in the process to both the child and their parents or carers, helping everyone feel informed and reassured throughout.

At Paediatric Diagnostics, our goal is to provide a safe, efficient, and compassionate service, giving parents peace of mind and children the care they deserve.

For younger patients, we employ techniques to distract them and minimize any discomfort, anxiety, or fear. To further ensure a painless experience, our nurses use numbing spray or “magic cream” (local anaesthetic cream) on the back of both hands and sometimes inside the elbows before the blood test. The numbing spray works almost instantly, allowing the blood sample to be taken right away, while the magic cream takes a bit longer and is covered with a small transparent plaster until the area is fully numb.

When it’s time to take the blood sample, the nurse will gently squeeze the arm or wrist or apply a tourniquet to help the vein fill with blood. A tiny needle connected to a syringe is then used to collect the sample. Once done, the needle is quickly removed, and a bit of cotton wool is applied to stop any bleeding. Finally, a small child-friendly plaster is applied, which can be removed at home.

Feedback from Families

Here’s what some of our families have to say about their experiences at our clinic:

“It was our first visit, and we found the clinic very clean and inviting. The waiting area was great for children, and the refreshments were lovely. The staff were brilliant with my anxious son, and he said he would want to go there again if he needed a blood test in the future.”

Really nice clinic with great staff, everyone is very friendly, helpful, and kind. My little boy had a skin prick and a blood test done with them. I was very anxious, but we had a really good experience thanks to Femi, Joe, and the rest of the staff. We get fairly quick appointments; it is a nice and clean clinic, and waiting times aren’t bad. Doctors take their time with you and answer all questions. Femi helps a lot with guidance as well. Overall, very happy.”

We strive to provide a welcoming and stress-free environment for both children and their families, ensuring that every visit is as pleasant as possible.
