Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is a frequent disorder in which stomach acid flows into the oesophagus (gullet). The symptoms include heartburn and a bad taste in the back of the mouth.

We are pleased to offer childhood GORD investigation and treatment at our outpatient clinics in Dorking, Surrey and Wimbledon, London, making us ideally placed to provide expert treatment to children living throughout Surrey, Kent, and Southwest London, including Balham, Battersea, Brixton, Clapham, Earlsfield, and all nearby areas.

Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease - The Facts

The movement of stomach contents into the oesophagus is known as gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR). When symptoms are nonexistent or are not bothersome in newborns, it is termed a physiological condition.

The issue normally occurs when the child is under the age of 8 weeks old and is usually resolved in 90% of newborns before they reach the age of 1.

Paediatric GORD should be suspected in infants who have regurgitation and one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Distressed behaviour, including excessive sobbing, crying when feeding, and strange neck postures.
  • Hoarseness and/or a persistent cough
  • A single bout of pneumonia
  • Feeding troubles that are unexplained.
  • Growth is slowing/faltering.

Our team are highly experienced in providing investigation and treatment for paediatric gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and will be able to offer you and your children the best advice and care.

We have private clinics based in West Sussex, Dorking, Surrey and Wimbledon, London, meaning we are ideally placed to investigate and treat young patients in Surrey, Kent, and Southwest London, including Balham, Battersea, Brixton, Clapham, Earlsfield, Streatham, Stockwell, Tooting, Wandsworth, Chelsea, Earls Court, Fulham, Parsons Green, South Kensington, and West Brompton.
