Diarrhoea in Children - The Facts

Diarrhoea is a common condition in children and tends to least for less than two weeks. In this case, your child has suffered from acute diarrhoea. If the condition lasts for longer than two weeks and continues to persist, your child will have chronic diarrhoea.

Although not a serious condition, your child may suffer from dehydration due to the amount of fluid being lost throughout each day. To help combat this, we recommend that you ensure that your child drinks lots of water, which can include special rehydration drinks. 

What Causes Childhood Acute Diarrhoea?

The most common cause of acute diarrhoea is an infection of the gut. This could be the result of the following:

  • A Virus
  • Food Poisioning
  • Contaminated Water

SYMPTOMS OF CHRONIC DIARRHOEA IN CHILDREN?

If your child is suffering from chronic diarrhoea they are most likely suffering from an upset stomach along with slight to severe diarrhoea for several days or longer. Being physically sick and suffering with a high temperature, aching limbs, and headaches is also common.

These symptoms can occur for a number of days but can last for longer.
